Ladew Topiary Gardens Tour

Members of the Homeland Garden Club enjoyed a memorable outing to Ladew Topiary Gardens, an enchanting space nestled in the rolling countryside of Monkton, Maryland.

Our visit began with a guided tour of the formal gardens, where we explored Ladew’s iconic topiary displays, which are artful living sculptures that showcased both horticultural mastery and whimsical charm. From swan-shaped hedges to elegant garden rooms themed by color and design, each space told a story and offered ideas to bring home to our own gardens.

Next, we strolled the Nature Walk, a peaceful woodland trail offering native plants, shaded boardwalks, and scenic pond views, which was a wonderful contrast to the formal gardens. It was a refreshing reminder of the balance between cultivated beauty and wild landscapes.

Our last stop was at the historic Manor House, where our docent shared fascinating insights into the life of Harvey S. Ladew and his eclectic and artistic vision for the estate. The home was filled with personality, antiques, and old-world charm, providing a glimpse into another era.

No visit would be complete without an opportunity to browse in the Ladew Gift Shop and lunch at the Ladew Café!

Our tour of Ladew Topiary Gardens was the perfect way to wrap up our program year, and a meaningful and inspiring final gathering of the season for the Homeland Garden Club.
